In modern harried, overworked, underpaid, overstimulated culture we quite often get much more stress which as I am sure you already recognize is terrible for our health.
The ideal solution to this problem will be to live a simpler life. Remove the cell phone, traffic, TV, email, loud neighbors and unhealthy managers and simply live on your own in a solitary retreat in the forest.
But then, most of us can't do that (or wouldn't want to). So what's contemporary person to do?
We are able to create our own internal retreat in our mind's and body's with effective relaxation methods which may have existed
for centuries. Indeed, individuals thousands of yrs ago in the big cities of Rome, Cairo and Hong Kong had stress to. So how did they cope with it? They practiced relaxation methods.
The most effective and well known relaxation method around the planet is meditation. It's been around for a long time. Even though you might have a concept in your head of an Indian Yogi for a mountain top relaxing in half lotus position, with his fingers in odd positions, the most common and useful kinds of meditation are a lot out of this unusual image.
Most of the people practice meditation by standard using a seat or on the earth (turns out you don't need to be in detailed lotus after all). You near the eyes of yours and you pay attention to something as simple as the breathing of yours, the sounds you hear around you, or perhaps a word you repeat in your brain as "peace" or "calm."
Inevitably the mind of yours will lose focus on whatever you are focusing on. Whenever you notice this, you gently bring your attention
back to that period of focus. This happens time and again during meditation.
I know it does not sound very relaxing but it's. Actually in the 1970's a medical scientist by the identity of Dr. Herbert Benson learned the strategy of leisure and sophrologie
determined that when practiced often it lowered blood pressure level and reduced the prospects of getting cardiovascular disease for people he studied. It also decreased stress and led a lot of people to be happier (wonderful side effects).
